Rosema Saint Louis- Obesity
20. October 2011 by student.
In recent years, obesity has become one of the biggest issues and one of the most debated topics in the media .In the school of health and in the food industry, the problem of obesity has been framed as a consequence of poor lifestyle choices attributed largely to knowledge, cultural or other character deficits.
Regardless of what has been said on the news and statistics, young people especially those in the middle class are the most victims of obesity. But after my research, Obesity affects more people each year. It is now thought that over the world, about 300 million people are now obese, that about 7 percent of the population may not seem a lot, but that’s because of the uneven distribution throughout the world. Statistics say that the USA has the highest rate of obesity; where over the third of adults suffer from this condition. The truth is that we all at an increasing risk from obesity. It’s not a disease that preys on people depending on their physical strength, their age, their color, their sexuality or any genetic factor. It’s a condition that feeds upon our lifestyle and is growing day on day. In conclusion people can prevent obesity by providing food options that are low in fat and in calories, eating fewer high calories food. Yet, creating more opportunities for physical activity at work sites, promote healthier choices including at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and reasonable portion sizes is very important. Nevertheless, another factor to solution this situation would be encouraging food outlets to increase the availability of low-calorie, nutritious food items, etc.
