Rosema Saint Louis- Obesity

In recent years, obesity has become one of the biggest issues and one of the most debated topics in the media .In the school of health and in the food industry, the problem of obesity has been framed as a consequence of poor lifestyle choices attributed largely to knowledge, cultural or other character deficits.

Regardless of what has been said on the news and statistics, young people especially those in the middle class are the most victims of obesity. But after my research, Obesity affects more people each year. It is now thought that over the world, about 300 million people are now obese, that about 7 percent of the population may not seem a lot, but that’s because of the uneven distribution throughout the world. Statistics say that the USA has the highest rate of obesity; where over the third of adults suffer from this condition. The truth is that we all at an increasing risk from obesity. It’s not a disease that preys on people depending on their physical strength, their age, their color, their sexuality or any genetic factor. It’s a condition that feeds upon our lifestyle and is growing day on day. In conclusion people can prevent obesity by providing food options that are low in fat and in calories, eating fewer high calories food. Yet, creating more opportunities for physical activity at work sites, promote healthier choices including at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and reasonable portion sizes is very important. Nevertheless, another factor to solution this situation would be encouraging food outlets to increase the availability of low-calorie, nutritious food items, etc.

Rosema Saint louis- Violent games

Who thinks violent games are a social problem in the society? In my opinion, I think it is a big issue. Violent games are extremely dangerous for children because studies have proven that playing violent video games predict aggressive behavior. Sometimes children become criminals because these games have had a negative effect on them. They see too much shooting and killing while they are playing. As they get older they want to experience more violence. Therefore, it is hard for them to quit playing because they are too addicted. I think parents should not let their kids play violent games. They should pay attention of what kind of games their kids are playing.

Parent Abuse- SRC

At work today, I was taking photos of a family for the mom’s birthday. One of the children, was being a typical twelve year boy and growing impatient so he tells his mom he wants to leave. Mom was getting annoyed and said “If you ask me again, I’m going to slap you” the boy responded, “I’ll slap you back” And he did! The mom was so shocked that she just began crying and apologizing, then left. Seeing this got me to think how many other children go around abusing their parents and why does it happen? Video games? Peer pressure? Poor parenting? As a mother I wondered what would I do in that situation. After looking online a bit (there wasn’t much information) and reading some of the stories from parents and how they were dealing with it I was even more confused. Growing up, that would never have been accepted at any age but some parents were suggesting at two or three it was fine, and at six is becomes a problem, and by the time your child’s a teen you should throw them in jail. Other parents suggested having a punching bag with each person in the family’s name on them and letting the child hit that instead. I have some other ideas, I believe that you should enforce the “I’m the parent, you’re the child” principle early in life, and that you shouldn’t teach your child to hit when angry or upset. I think parent’s shouldn’t allow children  to get to the point where they feel its okay to hit or yell at a parent. This is a problem that is probably effecting more people than we know, and it’s something that we don’t hear about until too late sometimes.

Dr. Evil

Is it just me, or does the thumb-size picture on the top right corner of the Andoscia sociology website pages look like Dr. Evil?

Dating same sex……shanita H.

When your child comes home to tell you that they are dating the same sex. How would you deal with it? when answering this question stop and think about it in whole, now that they are dating the same sex out in the public. Now they would have to deal with Society negative effects and thinking.

society labeling teenagers shanita H.

When a teenager becomes pregnant. Do you agree with society when they have been labeled to be failures?

I don’t agree with this, because I think you still can make it after getting pregnant as a teenager. I actually think that some teenager that become pregnant; however, a baby actually sometimes change their way of living. It helps them to make wiser decisions because now that they have a responsibility.  Don’t get me wrong I am not saying that it is appropriate for them to be having sex and getting pregnant at such a young age, but instead of putting them down, just give them another chance.

Drug Abuse - Keekee Hayward

Drug abuse is a really serious problem. Many people today are falling into addiction everyday.  46% of  people start using drugs when they are adolescents and many continue into their adult hood. Many people try drugs but don’t become addicted to them. The reason some people get addicted because they don’t know that drugs change the chemicals in the brain that make people dependent on them. Studies show that most people who get addicted to drugs have some kind of psychiatric illness including- mood, anxiety, and/or personality disorder. I think instead of people doing drugs for fun they should first find out some backgrounds on the drugs.

Why sagging pants is illegal- Keekee Hayward

So many boys now a days are doing a trend called sagging pants (having your underwear showing and you pants below your butt). But what some boys may not know there are some real issues with the  trend and you can now go to jail for doing it. Sagging your pants also has a background and it isn’t new, it may also send the wrong signal because of its meaning. Sagging your pants is know as indecent exposure that is the reason you can go to jail. But sagging originated in prison to show you are a homosexual. When the men that were in jail got out of jail boys saw them sagging and started the trend. Although may of boys do it many of them don’t know the true meaning of it.

Eye Witness testimony- Keekee Hayward

Yesterday i was watching the show 60 minutes and they were talking about how eye witness testimonies can go wrong. The show was about when a young woman got raped in her house one night, as she was getting  raped she studied her rapists face so if should would survive not getting killed she was going to put him behind bars. She was able to get away from the man and she ran to the police station. she did a composite sketch of her rapist and the police found a man who looked liked him which was Ronald Cotton. The man was sentenced to life and fifty years in jail. One day when some new inmates came in Cotton saw a man who looked liked him and the sketch the woman did for the police. So he went up to man and he found out the man lived in the same town he did and the man was in jail for rape. After a while even inmates started confusing Cotton with the other inmate. Ronald Cotton took his case back to trial and got denied. It was about ten years after Cotton had been in jail that he herd of this new thing called DNA. He took his case back to court and got released when the people found out that it wasn’t in fact Cotton it was the other inmate. Cotton had been in jail for eleven years all because the witness who got raped said that he was the one who did it. He was wrongly accused!

confused on sex offenders- Dawn O’Keefe

How is it possible that a man or woman can be charged/convicted of child molesting and still be able to have children? Doesn’t make much sense to me. Raise a child from 9 months old and when she is 9 yrs old molest her for who knows really how long… Then go to prison and when he gets out he violates 3 times and does more prison time. One of the reasons he violated was he had a relationship with a woman that wasn’t approved and then married her. Well, they had a rough relationship with her cheating and being a liar. But any ways 2 yrs after he was released from prison she finds out she is pregnant. What?!?! Now, he gets off parole in November and baby is due in January. He said it is legal because he will be off parole…. But I forgot to mention he is a lifetime registering offender so I say again… how is that fair? He takes the life of a 9 yr and throws it upside down because of his behavior and he should have the right to have another child? Not only did he ruin the little girls life but he destroyed his family. Lost the best life he could have and 2 other children. I think that child molesters shouldn’t get the privillage to have a family again. They had their chance and chose to throw it out the window.
