Maria Rodriguez (Edison), Abortion

The controversy of whether or not to legalize abortion continues to be a very opinionated subject; it seems like there are no real answers to this issue. Today the most widely accepted reason for having an abortion is rape, incest, deformed fetus, and physical danger to the mother. More than likely the reason society refuses to accept abortion is because women are using excuses such as; “I’m too young to raise a child” or “I can’t afford to raise a child”.  A pro-life individual would say that abortion is a form of murder and that it demeans the value of life. Furthermore they say ending a pregnancy essentially kills the baby that your body is trying to protect. On the other hand a pro-choice individual would argue that abortion is not murder because it is performed before a fetus has developed into a person. Pro-choice individuals believe that a fetus is not a person until it is born. Many young adults, who find themselves pregnant cannot fully devote their time to school and end up dropping out of school ending their educational career. In many cases, the after math of bringing a child into the world that is not wanted can be very traumatic for the innocent child. I believe the government should not have any control over a woman’s body. I am unsure where I stand on the subject of abortion due to my own experience of losing a baby to a miscarriage. Although I was only three months pregnant when I lost my baby, I still considered it to be a living person. It has been a year since I miscarried and at times the painful reality hits. Therefore my opinion on abortion is very mixed. I do believe that women with special cases such as rape and incest should have the right to have an abortion. For those women who use abortion as away out because they are not mature enough to take responsibility for their actions shouldn’t be considered.

Abortion has always been a tough subject to talk about. I’ve had plenty of close friends who got pregnant, some kept the baby while others didn’t, and i know how hard the whole process can be. Personally i think having an abortion should be decided by only the couple involved. There are a lot of arguments for and against abortion but at the end of the day, no stranger should tell a person how to live their own life. Trying to teach a couple a lesson by not letting them have an abortion is ridiculous. Why bring a baby into this world if no one can take care of it, and raise it properly. Abortions is not just an easy way out as some may suggest, because abortions have a HUGE impact on the persons mental state, even years after the abortion. Personally i think abortion should be left to the decisions of the people involved, because what ever they decide, they will have to deal with the consequences.

If we had responsible people in this world, I believe abortion would not exist. I do not like the idea of someone having an abortion for any reason. Reasons like rape or the fact that one may be carrying a child becuase she is not ready is not an excuse.
When a person realizes that she is pregnant, that person should know that there is something growing inside and it is called life. If one finds time to have sexual intercourse, that person should stop and ask, “Am I ready to have a baby?” before they proceed any further. Because having sex equals making babies, among other things, they should find ways to protect themselves from getting pregnant. Be responsible and I guarantee there will be less abortion hapening in this world.
