Zachary Martell (FGCU): Should immigration from Cuba to Florida be illegal?
OK from the perspective of an adult who has live in Florida for 19 years, I think the “wet feet, dry feet policy” or so called Cuban Adjustment Act is a joke. Understood that the immigration mainly comes from Mexicans illegally coming to the US from the Mexican Border. But what makes Cubans any better than Mexicans. Sure during the Clinton presidency, the agreement with Castro was that a Cuban were to reach American soil, they would be allowed legally to have a residency in Florida for a year. But since most of the Cubans migrate to Miami, Miami has become well over populated and the idea of competition has put many out on the streets and struggling to get by. In the 1980s there wasSo if you ask from my perspective, a perspective of a Miami, Floridian I do believe that the “wet feet, dry feet policy” should be illegal. If this were to change, then there would most likely be more stability in Miami, Florida.

Yes, I agree it may be worth a look at the wet foot dry foot policy. Cubans are a fine people and many are very well trained in fields of medical science. We must begin to break this age old barrier with Cuba. We do business with China at free will and they are perhaps the worlds worst human rights abusers. Yes the Cuban government is wrong but as you can see the only people who have suffered in Cuba is the Cuban people not the government. At the very least lets allow travel to Cuba unrestricted starting immediately. And the immigration policy will work itself out in time.

I too believe that this wet foot dry foot policy should be outlawed. The United States must have a strict and comprehensive immigration policy and stand by its guidelines. Why should someone be allowed to stay when others are waiting years to be approved and come in legally? I just feel these people are taking a short cut in the process. I know life in Cuba must be horendous but the people must stay and demand changes in their country. Cuba can only be saved by its people staying and forcing change.
