Hoarders by Desiree Courtney (edison)
Hoarders are hard to live with by far. They keep practically everything because they are emotionally attached to their posessions. A lot of times when a hoarder wants to stop their habbit they’ll reach out to their family or to friends or even appearing on the show Hoarders on A&E. This show shows what hoarding does to the hoarder’s family but mainly focuses on the psychological problems of these participants. Many times they have their posessions filling every family members room stacked and stacked at least 3 feet high. Hoarders feel like their in their comfort zone when they’re home because they are surrounded by everything that means something and i mean everything even crap they don’t even think they’ll use. It can get so out of control living conditions become dangerous. The hoarders who have a family and/or pets might even face the risk of having their animals taken away based on what the police or animal police observe.

I too have seen this show and it is sad to see the people struggle with all these posessions in their lives. Often the person will be an active member of the community and they hide the hoarding from coworkers and friends. It seems they usually have suffered a great loss that they never get over and somehow it leads to this struggle. I think the shame they feel about letting things get so out of control also hinders many of them from getting professional and family help. I think it is good for society to see shows like this. I know I never thought about it before but now I have compassion for these people and I would definitely not be judgemental. Before, I might have just dismissed the hoarders as “crazy”. Another show by the name of “Obsessed” shines the light on OCD. This show focuses on people struggling with rituals. These are positive reality shows in my opinion… I find them facinating.
