Noelle Beauchamp (FGCU) Show Me the Money

Sport players and Entertainers have been making big money for many of years. They make millions upon millions of dollars that people can only imagine. Take Derek Jeter, he is a baseball player for the New York Yankees. In one year alone he made thirteen million dollars. Another example is Beyonce Knowles who is a famous singer. She supposedly makes any where between 30-50 millions dollars per year. That is ridiculous. It seems today that people have forgotten to pay money to people who truly deserve it like firefighters and teachers. Entertainers today are getting paid way too much money for not doing a whole lot. People who deserve that money are people that are going out, trying to make the world a better place, and making a difference on someone’s life, not people like Brittany Spears. Would hitting a ball with a bat really equal to an amount of millions of dollars? There are people like paramedics, nurses, teachers, and other people helping society that get lousy pay. So lousy that some young kids have even changed their major because pay is so low, but then they see rappers that talk about weed and big butts, and yet getting paid millions of dollars for it. Why go to school when you can become an Entertainer? It seems to be society has no morals these days in deciding on what our money should really go to. Most people would argue that Entertainers should be paid big bucks because they of course “entertain” us and provide happiness for us all, but so do clowns at a circus and you do not see them making billions of dollars. Some say it is society’s fault that we pay the money that we do for big stars.  A journalist had this to say in that remark, “As a society, we could never agree as a collective what jobs we valued most. Like it or not, in a free market economy, people are generally paid in accordance with the economic value they create and how society wants to pay them” Brian Pears is basically saying that as long as society keeps wanting to see these famous people the more their salary will keep on rising. If society could just see that there are jobs worth more money then someone lip-syncing on stage then maybe we could change the way we do things a bit differently. For once, have the people who deserve the money actually receive it. Stars make seriously so much money that it is ludicrous. Stars make money that normal working people will never even make in an entire lifetime.  I think it is OUT of CONTROL!!! Some people fight that famous ball players should get paid big money because their jobs our very intense and draining. Well people fighting in the war have to deal with a lot more then just trying to get a ball in a hoop, and you do not see them making big money.  Then people say that they are worth the money because all the training they have to go through, however even athletes sitting on the bench for about 99% of the time during a game are still some how making more money than most individuals that actually have to go out and do something. A point someone had to go along with this was, “When your house catches on fire, or your kids need an education, or heaven forbid someone invades the United States, who are you going to call? Are you going to call that basketball player that you and other Americans pour the money into every year, or are you going to call that Army Sergeant who makes only $32,000 a year?” This passage really makes you stop and think. If their was a fire there is no way your calling Justin Timberlake or Paris Hilton to come put it out. You’ll be calling the real heroes. People need to reevaluate in what they think is right. The only way to stop this mess is for the every day person to say no and stand up for what they deserve, a higher paycheck!! Celebrities will always be the ones at the top of the pole when it comes to money. It is such a shame that people cannot see the true people who deserve it. Entertainers get paid way too much, and it is about time this craze stopped. If I could rap about illegal substances and booty dancing for millions of dollars, rather then a salary a teacher receives then sadly I think I’d start a career in rapping. Entertainers are not the true working people, and since that is the case they do not deserve the money.

This issue bothers me too for as long as I can
remember, but because we’re living life up side down,I’m afraid that’s the way it’s going be.I agree with you 100% that teachers and firefighters should not have to worry about how they’re going to pay their rents. This is really out out control.Thank God for a young adult like you that acknowledges.
