Noelle Beauchamp (FGCU) Discrimination

Discrimination can be described as treatment taken towards or against a person of a certain group just based on solely on class or category. This to me is by far the most ignorant act one can do to one another. If you look at discrimination from a Sociological Prospective it makes even less sense. Discrimination can literally be based off anything from genders, race, disabilities, and even from the type of color of your hair. People can find even the smallest reasons to not like someone. I think it is absolutely disgusting how people treat others, and if people would just open their eyes they would possibly see that we all have the same wants and needs. The thing about discrimination that is even more ironic is that it is mainly false and based on assumptions, no true facts.  Some research even found that “only 24 states and D.C. include sexual orientation in their hate crime legislation.” Leaving many people that are homosexual to deal with discrimination every day of their lives. If law enforcement aren’t there to protect them, then who is? That is not the only thing

“About 600 million people in the world experience disabilities of various types and degrees.” Leaving many people open as well to discrimination. Almost everyone in his or her life will deal with either being discriminated on or being the one who discriminates. Discriminates hurts everyone, and is truly something people need to wake up and stop doing, and appreciate everyone as what they are. As well as anything else women are discriminate on in things from their jobs and at home. “1/3 of American women and 1/4 of women worldwide will experience domestic/dating violence in their lifetime.” This is a crazy thing to think about and just shows how men discriminating on women are here as well. What has sociologists looking at that is even more intense the attempt of genocide. Think about it, the Holocaust was based PRIMARLY on discrimination and nothing else. Hitler’s hate towards the Jews that had no prime reason turned into a piece of history everyone wished we could erase. This issue to this day still has Sociologists Sociological Prospective all twisted. Discrimination is bad if we like it or not, and truly needs to be stopped, but as sad as it is, as long as there is humans there will be discrimination.
