Melanie Conway(FGCU)-Death Penalty

My take on the death penalty is I’m all for it being forced. I think that if its enforced than justice is being served. Also like the quote says, “eye for and eye”, I know some people don’t believe with this saying, but if your capable of killing someone then your capable of dealing with the consequences for your actions. We need to show a message so everyone understands that you can’t get away with killing someone, your actually going to have to deal with the consequences of your actions. And are we really showing the victim or the victims family any respect? To me we would be showing more sympathy for the criminals than the victim and this doesn’t seem right at all. There is many reasons as to why the death penalty should be enforced like, it causes over crowded prisons, prisoners either get parole or escape, and maybe we would see less murders if its enforced.
A major problem we are have with not enforcing the death penalty is were getting more and more over crowded prisons. And the problem with this is its going to make us spend so much money on building more prisons, just so we can accommodate for all the prisoners. In a Spartan Daily article they said that, “The prison population in California has grown 800 percent in the last 30 years, according to the Department of Corrections. And a penal system designed to house 100,000 inmates now holds 170,000.” (Spartan Daily, Over Crowded….). So it looks like to me that the solution to solving this problem is when inmates are sentenced to death penalty, that they should care out their sentence. There is no need to wait thirty or forty years for this to happen. This is what is contributing to the problem of having over crowded prisons, just because you wait thirty or forty years it doesn’t mean there’s not going to be new death row prisoners or none at all. We are just going to have double from what we started with and is this really fixing the problem?
Another thing is those who get sentence with death penalty either get parole or escape. Now does this seem far at all? No, so why are they getting this option, they shouldn’t even have this as one of their options. A major thing why they get parole or escape is the problem of over crowded prisons. That’s why if those prisoners who were sentence the death penalty actually had it enforced on them, then we wouldn’t have to worry about putting them on parole or having them escape. Just think if we don’t enforce the death penalty, what’s going to stop them from committing their crime again when they get out. But if they serve their death row sentence then it’s a sure way that we don’t have to worry about having another victim or them committing another crime again.
I also think that if we actually enforced the death penalty on those who got sentenced it, then maybe will be sending a message to these criminals and will start seeing less murders. Now isn’t this something we all truly want. That’s why I think that if criminals knew that when they killed someone that their punishment is also going to be death, then maybe they‘ll think twice before killing again. This is when they are going to realize, that its not going to be so easy to get out of this anymore, if the death penalty is enforced on them. This is something we need to enforce, because how are we going to know if this is going to work or even get threw to the criminals, if we don’t at least try it.
I think that if were going to say were going to do something that we need to carry it out. We can’t be letting the criminals know that if they kill someone that its fine and then can just get parole as their punishment. Because this is not the case at all and justice needs to be served. By serving the death penalty to those criminals who got sentenced it, I think that we can solve a lot of our problems we have from it. It sure would save us money, solve the problem of over crowded prisons, and we wouldn’t have to worry about the criminals getting out and killing again. Again I’m not for killing someone, but if your capable of killing person and are sentenced the death penalty, then it needs to be carried out. You shouldn’t get the chance to get out of it and be set free.
