Depression is a psychological condition that affects people all over the country. Depression is a mood disorder that affects children, teens, and adults. Typically people with depression will feel a sense of loneliness and helplessness for no known reason. The main factors that cause depression include physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, certain medications, personal conflicts, fights with family or friends, a death of a family member or friend, a family history of depression, major life events, other personal problems, contracting a serious illness, substance abuse, and even more.

                Some symptoms of depression include difficulty remembering details, difficulty making decisions, and difficulty concentrating, little energy, fatigue, feelings of hopelessness and pessimism, staying up all hours of the night, excessive sleeping or waking up very early, irritability, loss of interest in things they once enjoyed, eating too much or eating too little, persistent pains, cramps, headaches, etc., “empty” feelings, thoughts of suicide, and attempted suicide.

                There are a variety of types of depression. Major Depression, also known as Clinical Depression, is a type of depression that causes the person to feel depressed mostly all day for two weeks minimum.  It has the same symptoms as regular depression but more intensified. Chronic Depression is a less severe form of regular depression and has the same symptoms except less intensified. Bipolar Disorder, formerly called Manic Depression, is a mood disorder that causes mood swings between major depression to mania, or extreme elation. The mood swings range from mild to very extreme and can occur gradually or all at once. Another type is Seasonal Depression which is depression that occurs around the same time each year. Other types of depression include Atypical Depression, Postpartum Depression, and Psychotic Depression.
