Teenage Pregnancy By Anne Purdin
The older this world gets, the younger mothers become. More and more teenagers are getting pregnant. The reason for this is lack of knowledge, communication between parents and partners, and lack of birth control. Most young teenagers are scared to ask their parents for advice about sex because they do not know how you will react. Parents need to take the initiative to talk to their children about sex before they get pregnant or get someone pregnant. Some teenagers rely on their partner to know what they are doing and that’s how you get pregnant. As we all know, condoms do not always work. You need to be on two types of birth control while you are sexually active. Also, some people might not have the money to buy condoms or have insurance, or they money to go see a gynecologist and be put on birth control. Even when you do end up pregnant, there are other alternatives, such as abortion and plan b one step, but that is pretty costly as well. The best way to solve this problem is abstinence, but we all know that is not going to happen. What we need to do is have more parents sit down with their children and let them know that you are there for them if they need anything or have any questions.

i disagree, parents are not going to help this problem. number one because parents are never going to be ok with their children going out and having sex so why would they encourage it? yes they should talk to their children about staying safe but then again how many teens actually take their parents seriously and listen to everything they say.? a teen is going to be a teen no matter what and parents are going to stay parents. its never going to change. yes some parents may be cool enough to go out and get birth control pills for their daughter so she can have safer sex but i think that is very rare. its also different with a son than it is with a daughter. with a son and father sex is not always as serious and is it is with a daughter. just another double standard. what i do think people need to start doing is making birth control pills easier to get. and no it will not encourage sex more than sex and teen pregnancies is already happening. just recently u can go buy the plan B pill at any clinic and birth control pills but i have to be 18 or older. these things should be available to all females no matter what. they should be as cheap and easy to get as condoms. no girl wants to get pregnant so of course she is going to go out and buy birth control pills if they were easier to get. many girls don’t because they think they are hard to get and are afraid to. society needs to make it so that they can go out and get this stuff with no problem. its better to be safe than sorry.

I agree with the person above me in the fact that parents can’t do a whole lot about talking to their kids about sex. It is an awkward conversation that most parents don’t even wanna have. This is why their should be more information available to kids. I think that the easiest way to reach kids is through school. If sex education is made available to every child across the country, i believe that teen pregnancy and std rates will go down. If the classes teach about contraception the rates would fall even more than before. If kids become aware then they may be a little more likely to slip a condom on before sex.
