Sean Wotring - Steroids
Drug use has played a major role in professional sports especially baseball. The increase in drug use by professional athletes has resulted in harsher punishment for violating the drug policy, and more drug test. In my opinion Major League Baseball needs to switch to random drug test so if the player is taking a drug he doesn’t have time to cleanse his body.
Its unfair to other teams if one team, or even one player is using steroids. Performing enhancing drugs has tainted Major League Baseball, records are being broken but with the help of steroids. The problem is fans want to see more and more home-runs, by hitting more home-runs owners will sell more tickets. However, in my opinion the integrity of baseball cannot be traded for more money.
Steroids have negative effects on the body, not just baseball. Steroids can lead to an enlarged heart, high blood pressure, liver damage, and high cholesterol. Young baseball players are going to emulate what their heroes are doing, so they take steroids. Its going to be a continuous cycle like this until the professional athletes stop using performing enhancing drugs.
Steroids are too dangerous, the benefits don’t outweigh the risk, these drugs aren’t being regulated by the FDA. It can destroy lives, and worst of all is destroy our national pastime. Records will be tainted. Rather than training harder to get better athletes are taking the easy route. The easy route isn’t always the best. Steroid use needs to end, it doesn’t matter if your a recreational amateur or professional athlete.
