Eating Disorders;Cammesha Moody(Edison)

I’ve never understood why people suffer from eating disorders.

Fact:Many men and women with all Eating Disorders, Anorexia, Bulimia and Compulsive Overeating look like everyone else… it does not mean they suffer less or are in any less danger.

A person doesn’t think they look so great. They feel overweight and tend to become depressed about their body issues and then one day they decide to starve theirself.

I understand that a problem exists if the person is actually overweight but when you’re a size 3(female) or below and you think you look horrible so you decide to binge or starve yourself there’s obviously a deeper issue.

Personally, I’m a girl who wears the size of 0 and can’t fathom any reason for someone wanting to be any smaller than that.

While searching for answers to my unanswered questions, I realized that the mindstate of anyone suffering from an eating disorder is beyond abnormal.

  •  The Mind…People suffering with Anorexia and/or Bulimia often get a sense of power out of their Eating Disorder. It is not uncommon to find an Anorexic or Bulimic who feels “high” after periods of starvation or purging.
  • Low Self Esteem. Feelings of inadequacy. Poor self image and perception. Guilt, feelings like “I never do anything right.” Fears of being stared at, judged or being thought of as stupid. Feelings like “nothing I ever do is enough.” Sufferers often think things like “my life would be better if I lose weight,” or that people will like them more if they do.
  • Guilt. For not meeting the expectations of others. For falling short of our own expectations.
  • Power. A need to control physical and emotional surroundings. In this way Eating Disorders are a negative coping mechanism, used to control emotions or to keep them suppressed. It feels easier to think about food, food intake (or lack of), hunger and planning meals or avoiding them, instead of dealing with and feeling emotions
  • Deception. Lying about food intake or lack there-of. Lying to avoid eating or to sneak food. Hidden use of laxatives, diuretics and purging.
  • Depression. Mood swings, lack of motivation, feelings of hopelessness, anxiety or panic attacks, claustrophobia in crowded places, isolation and loneliness. Can lead to suicide.

Listed above are all problems of the mind.

I feel that a person who suffers from an eating disorder should seek help immediately from anyone,in order to save themselves from a horrible ending(Death).

This blog is written by a girl who is a size 0. Personally, I am a size 5 and happy with it, but I have had friends who are smaller than me and think that they are fat. They get this perception form the media, their boyfriends, and even their family that they are not good enough because of their weight. I do not think that it is a “problem of the mind,” but a problem of the people who make these girls think that they are not good enough because of how much or how little they weigh.
