2012? By Corie Champion

It seems like all anyone is talking about these days is December 21,2012, the day the world is suppose to end. This whole is panic is really starting to get to everyone not only in America but around the world. Especially with the new movie 2012 out, people are starting to think irrationally and its really starting to freak me out. According to sources like the Myan calander and predictions by philosphers such as Nostradomus, on this day the world will end forever and everyone will be doomed, something like the appocolyps. To me this sounds a little outrageous, and I think people are taking this way too litterally.

However, I do think that people are going to be so extream about this that they sabatoge their own society and everything will crash. I think people will end up withdrawling all their money from the banks, doing crazy bucket-list things, and it will cause mass chaos. To me, it will be something like Y2K where everyone paniced and prepared for the worst but nothing ended up happening. The media and television dont help either with this scare, people are always talking about this on the news and movies such as 2012 are scareing people and making them belive that stuff like that is actually going to happen! I honestly think nothing is going to happen and that this a hoax becuase I really dont want the world to end in 2012.

Every generation fears that it will be the last. There have been many of these doomsday scenarios, 2012 is just the most recent. There was Y2K, and the Jupiter Syndrome, plus the generational resurgence of Nostradamus every few years. Eventually one of these generations will be right, but will it be 2012? Unlikely. I wouldn’t cancel any of my 2013 plans.

Haha yeah I definitely agree it’s just a scare, but it’s really interesting to me how every generation has their own little scares like you said. Its like we as a society like to make our own little drama filled scenarios just so we can panic and then sigh of relief when nothing really happens. Very interesting, can’t wait to hear more about this topic as the time gets nearer.

I completely agree with both of you. Every generation has its own scare, whether it be the new millenium or even a war, or terrorist attack. Each culture or religious group has its own beliefs as to when the world will come to an end or even what year we are living in. As of right now, we do not have a definite answer as to when the world will come “crashing down”, so why live in fear? Life is so unexpected, you’ll never know when you’re living your last day. Everyone should just enjoy their life to the fullest with their loved ones and not live in fear of a doomsday scenario, because in the end when it’s your time to go, you will go.
