Here's a thought, why don't we make it mandatory to have all tax returns done in spanish. Then anyone who can't read it-----dosn't have to pay taxes that year. Works for me.

America is a melting pot, so citizens should get used to people talking in another language. That's what makes America a great country. We have people from all over the world. I think a foreign language should be compulsory as a part of the curriculum. It will make people's mind more open, not only to foreign languages but to other's people culture.

Actually, immigrants today are learning English faster than they ever have. Your suggested causes for why there need to be so many bilinguals is not complete.

Although I do see your point on this issue, the issue is not so much that someone is speaking another language, but whether they are willing to learn the main language of that place. Why is it that so many people are required to be bilingual? It is because there are some people who either refuse to learn the language or haven't taken the time to use one of the many free English classes. If I was to travel to France, I should obviously be able to speak some level of French in order to get by. It is more about common courtesy to people who don't speak that language. Obviously, there is no problem with someone speaking their natural tongue to someone from the same area.
