If the United States switched to a vegetarian diet there would no longer be hunger in United States. By redirected the food that is given to feed the cattle, pigs, and all the other animals that we consume to families and people in need we would eliminate hunger in the United States.

Great facts. According to a study done by the University of Chicago and reprinted in Time magazine, switching from a meat-eating diet to vegetarianism reduces a carbon footprint by 1.4 times the amount of switching from a Toyota Camry to a Hybrid car.

I think that the situation should be brought to light, however feel it unrealistic to expect people to become vegetarian in order to save the environment. Like you pointed out, meat is so engrained in our socialization process that it is a very touchy subject with most people.
