Takes more than a village to raise a child… Olivia Chavoen

To me, children are the greatest things we have on this Earth.  Children are the purest and most sincere people around.  They are the peole who will be the future of our nation.  They will one day be our doctors, lawyers, teachers, manual laborers, nurses, etc. and fill the shoes of all the postions that we need to run the United States of America.  It seems as if through-out the years, there has been an extreme “watering-down” of the value system in which the adults of this country are passing on to the younger generations.  I feel that the American media (ie: movies, T.V., music, etc) have an extremely strong and many times negative impact on kids, however those are not the only things to blame. I feel that it is not ONLY the faults of parents.  The American society is made up of every person in it, so everyone has a contribution to someone to lead some type of example.  Some folks are good examles, some are bad, some are a little jaded, however mean quite well… and the list goes on.  In reality, all people have their quirks and not all can be great at everything that they do.  I do not expect people to be a superstars; however, I sincerely that adults should be aware of the examle that they lead for others, especially children.  People who spend time with children, in whatever setting it may be, should be instilling simple morals and values in the children; as well as practicing them themselves.  Kids are so receptive to what adults do.  Just a cliche type of example, nonetheless a great one, is the scenario when the telemarketer is on the phone and mommy is telling her kid to tell them she’s not there.  Simple… Many have done it…. But what is it really teaching the child? That it is okay to lie to certain people? That small lies are alright to tell?  Another extremely important aspect of life that is seeming to be forgotten about at times is caring for the next person.  This is different than respect, which can be difficult for some people as it is.  But putting someone else’s needs before your own?  WOW! What a novel freakin’ idea that is!  Some people may never even consider such a thing.  But if they only tried it, they may just not want to stop because it feels good to be “selfless” not “selfish”.  If children are being guided in a direction that support these principals, the American public could be off to building a society that is denominated by people who are trying to serve their communities instead of take from them.  I feel that the new kind of power that could be given to people can change the new trends as opposed of past status-holding citizens, who may have represented negative qualities and in some cases, corruption.  The access to different resources for personal reasons as well as for the country can be heightened with less greed and more initiation to give.  Parents and teachers are the main people who need to take into condsideration what they are demonstrating to children; however, as I stated earlier, everyone plays a part.  The belief system that our society holds today is greatly affected by people trying to get ahead in life, poor outlooks, and lack of will to have positivity.  If we gradually work toward altering those ideas to ones of self-empowerment, taking part in good deeds, and having patience, gradually the American society will move in a brighter direction.  Like I said…. it’s all about the kiddos.
