Chabelli D (Edison) Insecurity
Not feeling comfortable in your own skin? Everyone in their mind has their own image and perspective of who they are and who they will become. Some people picture themselves as being either doctors or actresses, skinny or thick, blonde or brunette. Many of us have a picture of what we want to be, and when we fail at achieving this image we feel unhappy and insecure of ourselves. It is impossible to over come absolutely everything we set our minds to, and this is what most people do not understand. We are constantly fighting with what is real and what is not. Most people that suffer from insecurity have low self-esteem, poor body image, or think low of themselves. Also insecure people may have felt overshadowed or overlooked due to the people in their lives who seemed to them to be more successful, smarter, prettier, more handsome, more athletic or higher achievers, getting much attention. I believe that most people have different insecurities. Some just ignore them and some will do whatever it takes to be able to achieve this mental image of themselves. People deal with insecurities in different ways. Some will get plastic surgery to try and look the way they believe is being beautiful. Some may even starve to themselves to look skinny. We need to understand that there is no one out there that is “perfect”, everybody has flaws. Insecurity may lead to depression and it may even cause problems in school, work and at home. We can overcome insecurity by learning to accept who we are and understanding that everyone is beautiful in their own way. We need to be happy with whom we are, and deal with the many obstacles life has for us. After all who said that life would be easy?
What do chronically insecure people believe?
* I can never accomplish the task facing me.
* Everybody is looking at me, just waiting for me to make a fool of myself.
* I am a failure.
* I am ugly and awful to look at.
* I can never win. I am a loser.
* What is the sense of trying, I’ll never get it right.
* No matter how hard I work to achieve, I never get any recognition.
* I am incompetent in everything.
* How could anybody ever say anything good about me?
* I failed them in the past; therefore, I am a failure today.
* Once a failure, always a failure.
* There is only one direction for me to go in this organization and that is down and out.
* No one could ever like, respect or accept me.
* I don’t deserve to be treated nicely.
* I don’t fit in here or anywhere else for that matter.
* Everyone else looks so good, so together; I feel so out of it compared to them.
* I am an incomplete person and will always be that way.
* I am so afraid that no one will like me.
* Why would anyone care to hear what I say, how I feel or what I think?
* People are just nice to you in order to use you and get something they want from you.
