I am thirty-six years old and never went to a school where there were uniforms. Were there children who bullied? Yes, but they were reprimanded and believe it or not other students stepped in and helped the kids out who were being bullied. I feel the problem today is the teachers are so worried about fitting everything in their schedule the school boards are demanding that they have little time to pay attention. There should be professional training on bullying awareness for any employee of a school system that is working with the kids and the punishment should be harsher as well as the child doing the bullying having to enter into therapy sessions with and without their family members. Professionals need to find out where all of the hatred and anger is coming from to be able to fix it.

At Fort Myers Middle Academy in 2003, they made the decision to change their dress code to uniforms. Other factors contributed to the change, but a main focus was bullying. In 2005, they had reported that bullying had not decreased, but had increased throughout the school. To resolve the bullying issue they adopted "One on One." It was a confrontation program in which the bully and the victim both met with the principle and/or parent to solve the situation. The bully was confronted about the situation and was told to stop the bullying or further consequences would take place. The program succeeded in decreasing bullying throughout the school, although bullying was not totally resolved, there was a vast decrease in bullying from 2003-2006.
