Stephan Adam(Edison) The idocy of saving the planet

Save the planet, a slogan repeated and used for the green movement yet so utterly missaid. We are no where near the ability to destroy this planet, granted the Large-Hadron-Collidier is coming close, but not quite. The only thing we can destroy is the ecosystem, the environment we have gotten used to. Nature however does not stay the same, ever, we on the other had are trying to completely force the ecosystem to stay the same, or to our image. Now yes, I am not disputing that we are destroying the existing ecosystem, however as nature is self correcting, if something ever goes too bad, something will come along and right everything. This will however make our life’s as humans undoubtedly hard, if not impossible. We are however a adaptive species, we can survive extreme conditions, like the little ice age in Europe that started in the mid 17th century. While certain groups have realized their folly some still are referring to saving the planet. Even in regions were it could be said that Humans have had a disastorous affect on, life will keep on existing. Chernobyl comes to mind, the site of a horrible nuclear reactor disaster, it is now one of the healthiest and most populated wild life areas in Eastern Europe, while radiation levels are still high. So why are we trying to correct everything we deem not to be part of that environment? Do we have to dominate nature and force it to our will, or could we just return to hat the Indians used to do and minimally regulate the forest.

  1. Mr. Andoscia says:

The “self correction” however, may be the extinction of the human race. That’s something I’d like to avoid. And, yes, we are adaptive. By why not err on the side of caution on this one?
