Brooke Gonnelly (Edison) Teenage Depression

About 20% of teens will experience depression sometime before adulthood. There are many reasons that can cause teen depression a few are genetics, environment, medical or physical conditions, and trauma and stress from life’s events. When you are a teenager everything is much worse than it really is. Sometimes even one little thing that may seem like no big deal to an adult could be a teens whole world. Teenage depression isnt something to take lightly it is something that needs to be treated. Many parents don’t read the signs and their son or daughter is never treated. Not being treated could lead to problems at home and school, drug and alcohol abuse, and self loathing which could even lead to suicide. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause in young people. If the teen is already dealing with depression issues anything even something small could come along that could just set them over the edge. Which brings me back to parents needing to talk to their children they need to listen and read the signs of depression in teens. Otherwise it can result in something far worse.
