Joel Murray (Edison) America A Confused Nation

I just want to start off saying that I fear the direction that this country is heading in. I woke up this morning listening to the news and the first thing that I hear is that Albany_Gov.David A. Paterson wants a public debate on Gay marriage.  In my view, there shouldn’t really be a debate. If America claims to be a christian nation then its judgments should accordingly line up with its beliefs/claims. Even  debates of ordaining homosexual minister’s is now becoming an issue.  Many churches here in America say that they believe the Bible in its entirety. Then if you then believe that the Bible was inspired by God, then what right do we have as man to question or to twist its teachings to justify are actions? If America don’t have a foundation, how can it stand? This is just foolishness!!! How can a homosexuals be ordained as ministers?  It like saying you have a group of African Americans who want to join the KKK.  There are some things that shouldn’t even be up for debate. If America continues like this, how can it not fall?

  1. Mr. Andoscia says:

But it’s really only Christians who are claiming that this is a Christian Nation; and that with very little historical evidence.

Claims must be debated. To simply say this is the way things are going to be and there will be no change is fatalistic and leads to social anomie as discussed in class.

Well Professor the Pilgims first arrived in 1620 bringing with them there relgious beliefs. Evidence of this is shown through presidency. America was shaped on christian views my friend and there is NO other religious belief that has such a strong hold and influence in our decison here in America. I do believe that infact there needs to be a solid ground foundation,by which i mean is to have a foundation that is not questioned nor challenged. Because are country foster all religous beliefs, its impossible to move in one direction for every desicion one makes. Every decison will be affected by ones own moral and religious beliefs. If we as a people are of one mind (sharing at least the same religous veiws)then we are better fit to make affective desicions. America is the only nation that i know that has gone out of its way to accomodate every religious views. Though we remain praised for being a diversified nation, we remain stagnant in going forth as a people because we are only unified as a people by our citizenship but divided in our mind set.
