Cynthia Buchan (Edison) Maybe Not Hitler But What About Fidel Castro?
21. March 2009 by student.
This is kind of a response to Dillon Spark’s post titled “Is Obama Hitler in Disguise?
Really I found this post very interesting and a really good point of view that I’m sure many Americans have probably come across in their ponderings of the future. I will admit, I’m a little shaken up as to what direction our land of dreams is coming to or may come to soon. I know that alot of people that I talk to share this same fear while many others don’t fear at all but rather are joyous of the outcome of this past election. I’m very open-minded so please don’t misunderstand this post. I was raised to be a Republican and that’s pretty much the end of story. Firey discussions are brought up by politics; it’s something that everyone NEEDS to talk about or there won’t be much of a compromise between the vat of different views that each individual has towards politics. People who do talk about them must understand though that there are going to be people out there that take their stand point very seriously.
I’ve recently discussed a little bit of politics with a few friends of mine that are from Cuba. I had asked them; “alot of people are afraid that Obama is slowly creating a socialist or communist foundation for America. How did it happen with Cuba when Fidel Castro took over?” Their response was quite surprising. She told me that from what she knows before Fidel had become the “ruler” of Cuba it was an amazing country to live in, beautiful and very similar to America. Fidel had promised many great things for Cuba as a whole and was very compelling (just as Obama is). She stated that many apon many of people believed every word he said and gobbled it up with high hopes for themselves, the future and for their country. It wasn’t too long after Fidel won the campaign for presidency that many things slowly were uncovered as lies. Fidel even came out himself and in defense of his actions compared to his promises he bluntly told the Cuban population “I lied!”.
I wouldn’t wish ill will upon anyone or anything especially not my own country and the people that make her so great. Sadly enough, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who may be thinking this but what if obama is lieing? If Obama can become president without factual proof of being a natural born citizan than can you imagine if his truest goals for America were anything other than what he’s been portraying so far?

Growing up in a world that idolizes beauty, worships a size zero, and floods your television screen with images of perfection, it is hard to believe anything else is acceptable. It’s these unattainable demands however that not only hurt young girls images of themselves, but also impact an ideal in the heads of girls at such a young age. Due to this, they now have a goal, a reference point the only thing left is for them to start walking towards it. It’s not surprising that 4 out of 10 women are unhappy with how they look, it’s even less surprising that 1 in every 25 women suffers from Anorexia Nervosa. It’s sickening to think that this is the world our children will have to grow up in and the affects are undeniable, I’ve seen girls as young as four playing with they’re stomach in the mirror and crying to their mom that they were “fat.” What is our society focusing on? What ever happened to American girl dolls, wanting a toy microscope, and playing outside? Today kids are brought up completely differently, given a cell phone at six, getting their nails done at ten and shopping at Hollister by 12. It’s like the next generation is factory made, already preprogrammed and ready to go. Is this what we wanted? I think we’re all becoming hypocrites, we say we believe in the Christian values, the American dream and social norms. However today I can’t even begin to understand what Christian would practice changing every part of your body to replace it by plastic surgery. Or when the American Dream was no longer about pride and making something of yourself in the country but rather about being rich, and then richer then your neighbors. The messages we send out silently, verse’s what we are preaching to our children to do are contradicting one another incredibly. Our society has become a bad influence on the innocent still here, and almost an impossible place for those who still stand for what they believe in to fight back.
