Dillon Sparks (FGCU): Who’s Entitled to be a Regular Person in the American Caste?
12. March 2009 by student.
“All men are created equal.” ~ Declaration of Independence.
In American Society, it is self evident that NO man is created, evolved, or transformed into something “equal.” Our caste system has labels, and with labels comes hatred. Gay, straight, black, white, hispanic, asian, women, men, southern, northern, right, wrong, idiot, moronic, pure. It needs to stop, but college kids and a professor can NOT change the world, hell we can’t even change our schools caste system. This has become such a problem, that this “labeling” has followed us from our homes to our universities. We now have belief groups that will openly speak out against other belief groups. A few weeks ago, a man was handing out bibles to students just walking around, telling us how to save ourselves. What makes this religion better than that religion?
We don’t like to think that it’s true, but racist, sexist, and anti-semetic groups are still around, and in our school. I have seen religions students speak out against the Gay/Straight Alliance. Why? Are homosexual’s not entitled to live a proper life with all the same benefits as us, simply because they like the same sex? When asked why, some Christian students quote the bible in the never ending circle of “The bible is the word of God, Therefore God exists. God exists because the Bible says he does. The Bible say’s he does, because it’s always right because it’s the word of God.” Explain, please. I would love to know what makes people function, because they obviously don’t have a brain.
Women now earn 70-80 cents to the dollar that a man will make. Why? Does having a penis make us God’s compared to them? They are inferior because they have the birth canal, yea I see how that makes sense. Oh wait, nevermind, I forgot this is REALITY. In the same world where homosexual’s can not live an equal life, women are also not aloud to do everything a man can do. Humerous, really. Sadly enough, we LIVE in this messed up world.
Multi-Cultural club exists to give the members equality in their own group. They become part of a “clique” and are joined because of a common qualification. They’re all different.
Black Student Alliance, Southern Borders Club (South American Student Based), Asia Club (offered in some High Schools). You will never find a “White Alliance club” because of one thing. Racism. In the past, the White race did own slaves, yes it’s true and theres nothing anyone that is alive now, can do to change that. But is it fair to say that we’re the only ones being racist? Please understand that I am NOT saying anything bad against race, I find the whole ideal funny. Racism is a belief that tells another why someone is inferior. Why? Because of their skin pigments? Yea, only in the world we live in now is that remotely close to true. We live in a disaster. No one gets along, theres only the caste system which makes sure that we think that we’re all getting along.
In society today, families are teaching their children and grand children all of the fun things of the past. These “fun” things get carried over, and then all you have is a bunch of mindless drones who can not think for themselves, and spew out intolerant and ignorant things.
Disclaimer:
I understand how this may be controversial, and I do understand how people may think I’m an idiot. That’s fine, please understand that it was NOT my intention to call any religion stupid, any race superior, any sex better. I just wanted to point out that racism, sexism, and anti-semetism is still around even in present day. We are surrounded by it, and deal with it in every day life.
—————————————–
People are people, and in no way should they be treated differently. A book tells people that a group of people are inferior because of the people they choose to like. Men think that women are inferior why? I really have no clue as to why. They are still PEOPLE. White men tell a black man he is less of a man because of a PIGMENT? Pathetic. Our caste system is so damaged, and destroyed that this “ideal” and perfect land where everyone is friendly, Is just as unreachable as communism.
I’ll leave you all with one final query:
People are all made up of the same basic components, a brain, liver, lungs, feet, hands, arms, head, brain, and a skeleton. How is one brain, liver, lung, foot, hand, arm, head, and skeleton better than another one?

Dillon Sparks (FGCU): Gun Law’s Representation?
12. March 2009 by student.
My entire life, I have lived in the land of “Dixie.” (Kentucky, Kansas, Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and few more). And every where I go, I always find the same argument. Do Gun’s kill people, or do people kill people? Hard to say, but I do feel it is the human hand who pulls the trigger, not the trigger who forces the hand. Throughout the country, there is a never ending battle between Automatic weapons and Semi-Automatic weapons. I find it funny how it’s the southerner’s who are represented by this outlook. Yes, in the south there are a lot of hunters, but its also funny how stereotypes neglect to mention that there are many hunting reserved in California, Montana, Idaho, Maine, Rhode Island, Oregon, Washington, and many other places. When people think of gun supporters they usually place a backwoods man with a shotgun as the leader of the argument. I am not here to argue that a majority of the southerners support the second amendment, but it’s not just them.
This brings me to another query: What’s the point of having full automatic weapons? There’s absolutely NO need for this. I AM for the right to bear arms. The Supreme Court, Feb. 24th 2009 (Tuesday) said that it is a citizens right, “…to keep and bear arms.” The year before, they also stated that it was legal for a citizen with, “no criminal record” to own a gun in order for self defense or hunting, and that it was their constitutional right. The National Rifle Association (NRA) came out with a quote, which is now their slogan, which almost everyone has heard.”If all guns were illegal, only criminals would have them.”
Stereotypes affects more than meets the eye. Growing up in these states and then moving to a northern state has made me realize what the nation thinks of us southerners. They believe us to be morons, farmers, and ignorant racists with guns and trucks. I bet anyone who hears a southerner talk with a “southern drawl” will therefore think less of the person, or just talk down to them.
Gun Laws= Red Neck laws?
Explain…

Lauren Clark (FGCU) Socializing and the Internet
12. March 2009 by student.
So, I noticed a few of my friends on Facebook giving up Facebook for lent. Has it really come down to that? Are people’s lives that dependent on online social networks that they feel like they should give them up for lent? What can be derived from this is that people believe that it really will be difficult to refrain from engaging in online social interactions for 40 days. Even personally, I know that sometimes I’ll hear some funny quote, and I’m like “oh, I’ve got to add that to my favorite quotes on Facebook.” Not “oh, I should call so-and-so and tell her that story.” Still, at that, we’re still relying on a technology to share in a life experience, so to speak.
This transformation from communication in real life, to adding in communication online, to those who allow their lives to be completely enveloped in internet life has occurred fairly quickly, within the last 10 years or so, with the invention and popularity of networks like MySpace and Facebook only adding fuel to the fire. There are many people currently who have found that their popularity, and even fame, has simply come from their networking using these websites. We know of “MySpace celebs” like Kiki Kannibal, and of course Tila Tequila; as well as YouTube celebrities like the Numa Numa YouTube video guy (Gary Brolsma) and Bo Burnham. And of course, everyone knows Tom, the originator of MySpace, and his default photo pose that has been a nonstop originator of thousands of YouTube videos and other internet nonsense. What about Facebook, you ask? I’m sure everyone has done that “25 things” note, which I even saw on a news website referencing what kind of information to disclose in this survey, and had links to other information regarding Facebook and how to make your profile appealing. There’s countless other trends that come and go on Facebook, with groups, notes, especially those groups like “I lost my phone, I need numbers” etc.
What sparked this whole thought was in class, a few weeks ago, when Professor Andoscia talked about his students just saying “LOL” in his classes, even when they weren’t really laughing out loud. It’s incredible how much of a culture has risen up, simply from being interconnected through a series of networks that allow for communication around the world. Personally, I know I’m one of those who has been known to say LOL, IRL, ILY, or BFF in real life in conversation, and not be looked at funny for it because the person I’m talking to knows exactly what I mean.
Thinking back only 10 years ago, when dial-up was just coming into the picture, people thought there was going to be a massive technology crash for Y2K, and there was just so much fear that surrounded the internet because it was such a huge unknown. Now, there are still people who can make the internet a dangerous place, but for the most part, if you’re using common sense, you know if you’re getting into a website that’s malicious or could harm your computer.
Socializing has become so reliant on these social networks that people find it challenging to give it up for 40 days. This is something that I’m sure 10 years ago, no one could have ever seen coming.
*As a side note, I realize some people may not have heard of Kiki Kannibal. A simple Google search would clear that up, but I found an article about her, with a link saying “you may also be interested in reading “Total Failures of The 21st Century”. Lawlz.*
