Leah Johnson (FGCU): Abortion
9. February 2009 by student.
From all the way back in 1973 abortions were legal during the early months of pregnancy. Now they have become one of the most common surgical procedures in the United States. About 1.3 million abortions occur each year. In my mind someone must put a stop to abortions but I understand that going from 1.3 million to none is hard to accomplish right away, so in this case an approach which is gradual for stopping abortions would be best. Although some abortions are done to prevent the birth of babies with serious genetic defects most of them are the result of unwanted pregnancies unwanted for many reasons. So many people have abortions because of simply not ready for a baby but yet you should have thought of that before and been mature and responsible at the time. Any unborn has the right to live, they did nothing to have an abortion forced upon them, and terminating a fetus’ existence is murder. We all have opinions but pro-life advocates argue that a fetus is living and growing human life form, entitled to the same protection and rights of other living people.
