Ok, im redoing this comment because I dont think it saved the first time.

First I have a few questions and then some thoughts as to how to cover such an issue.

1) Were both you and your husband legal immigrants before there was a problem with his papers?
2) Were your children legal citizens before he was arrested?
3)Are your children enrolled in school here?
4) When you worked in the fields were you working "under the table"?

If you answered "yes" to the first 3 and "no" to the last question, then I believe the following applies.

If such a thing were to happen then the country should take care of the actions and decisions it made. It should give some sort of help out to you as in a limited time of emergency shelter and health coverage to your kids until you can come to a desicion of how to get back on your feet, or until they figure out what will happen with your husband. To leave you in such a crisis is unmoral and if you were and are working and have legal kids then you should apply for some kind of emergency coverge. An abandoned mother with kids of legal citizenship should get what any other poor mother gets in america.
